Joseph William Frazier was born on January 12, 1944 in Beaufort, South Carolina and died on November 7, 2011 at the age of 67 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

Being 1.85m height Joe was rated at heavyweight class. Joe Frazier rose to prominence at the end of 1960s when he won fights against such boxers as Jimmy Ellis, George Chuvalo, Doug Jones, Eddie Machen, Buster Mathis, Oscar Bonavena and Jerry Quarry. During his career in the ring, Joe Frazier won 32 victories (27 – by knockout), had four defeats and one draw. With such outstanding results, Frazier undoubtedly increased his net worth and wealth. He became famous for his battles with another boxing legend Muhammad Ali, the opponent he defeated only once. Their fights were very popular among boxing lovers.

Joe Frazier became world heavyweight champion in 1970, the title he won after knocking down the boxer, Jimmy Ellis. This victory undoubtedly added much to the overall amount of Joe Frazier’s net worth. On March 8, 1971, in a fifteen rounds duel in New York’s Madison Square Garden, Joe Frazier won the fight against the legendary Muhammad Ali, who was defeated for the first time in the professional ring. At that time, the net worth of Joe had jumped up sharply. In 1973, Joe Frazier lost the world heavyweight championship after losing to George Foreman. The second duel with Muhammad Ali he lost on January 28, 1974 in New York, and the third unsuccessful fight ended with a technical knockout at the beginning of 1975, in the Philippine capital of Manila, when his trainer prevented him continuing the fight in the 15th round: this fight became known as ‘the thriller in Manilla’.

In 1976 Frazier ended his professional career. However, in 1981 Frazier tried to return to the ring and increase his net worth. In 1990 he was admitted into the Boxing Hall of Fame which made Joe Frazier’s net worth rise even more, despite being outside the boxing arena. In 1996, he released the autobiographical book titled ‘Smokin’ Joe: The Autobiography of a Heavyweight Champion of the World, Smokin’ Joe Frazier’.

When he retired from boxing Joe appeared in a few Hollywood films. He died from liver cancer in November 2011.

Joe Frazier had been married to Florence Smith, who after their marriage became Florence Frazier. Together they had three children Marvis Frazier, Jackie Frazier-Lyde and Joe Frazier Jr. Jackie Frazier-Lyde is also a professional boxer.

#Quote
1The way I fight, it's not me beatin' the man. I make the man whip himself.
2[on acquiring his nickname, 'Smokin' Joe' from his trainer] He used to say in the dressing-room, before sending me out to fight, "Go out there, goddammit, and make smoke come from those gloves."
3Ali always said I would be nothing without him. But what would he have been without me?
4[on the origin of his famously destructive left hook] When I was a boy, I used to pull a big cross saw with my dad. He'd use his right hand, so I'd have to use my left.
5[on his major victory over Muhammad Ali in 1971] He said if I whipped him that night he would get on his knees, crawl across the ring and say 'You are the greatest''. But he didn't do that. I think he was trying to get to the hospital.
