Carmelo Domenic Licciardello, born on the 19th of Janurary, 1956, is an American musician who became famous for being one of the biggest contemporary Christian artists and evangelists in the industry. He also became famous for his concerts with record-breaking attendances. He is best known for his stage name, Carman.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Licciardello grew up in an Italian-American household. He fell in love with music at an early age as his mother is also an artist. During his younger years, he played as a drummer in his mother’s band, and later on started forming his own group. He also played with various artists and even moved to Las Vegas in pursuit of a career in music. His early years as a musician helped his career and also his net worth.
During his 20’s Licciardello became a born-again Christian when he attended one of Andrae Crouch’s concerts. With his new found faith, he focused on making Christian music and produced an album entitled “God’s Not Finished With Me”.
In 1982, Licciardello released his first album – “Some-o-Dat” – which was welcomed with minor success. He followed it with “Sunday’s On the Way” in 1983 and “Comin’ On Strong” in 1984. While creating music, he also started his non-profit organization Carman Ministries.
Licciardello received success in his music in 1985 upon the release of his album “The Champion”. The single, also entitled “The Champion”, became his first number one hit, followed with many more albums, and live albums that made him one of the most successful contemporary Christian artists in the industry. In total, he received 15 platinum and gold albums and videos, and has also sold over 10 million records. The success of his music catapulted him into the limelight, and also tremendously increased his wealth.
Licciardello’s fame led Billboard to name him the Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year in 1990 and 1992. Licciardello is also a record-holder for the largest single Christian concert in history – in 1993, his concert in Johannesburg, South Africa was attended by more than 50,000 participants. Another concert that he participated in at Texas Stadium was attended by a total of 71, 132 fans.
Aside from music, in 2001 Licciardello also starred in the movie “Carman: The Champion”.
Today, Licciardello is still active in the music industry and still performs in evangelistic concerts and makes television appearances. His most recent project included his 2015 “No Plan B Tour”.
In terms of his personal life, Licciardello was married to Rosa, and has been rumoured to have various affairs, but none have stuck. He was diagnosed with myeloma in 2013 and was told that he only had three years to live, four at most. He started a Kickstarter campaign and was later able to compile the funds he needed for his new music. In 2014, after receiving chemotherapy treatments, he announced that he was cancer free.
