Two people injured, four pets die in Reston townhouse fire
Firefighters in Fairfax County said a fire early Tuesday at a Reston townhouse injured a man and a woman and left two dogs and two cats dead. A parrot survived.
Few details were immediately available, and it is not known how the fire started. It is under investigation.
The fire happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 12000 block of Purple Sage Court.
Capt. Willie Bailey, a spokesman with the department, said that when firefighters arrived, fire was coming from the front of the home. He said two people — a man and a woman in their mid-20s — were rescued from the home and were flown from the scene. Five pets were also in the home. Two dogs and two cats succumbed to their injuries.
“A parrot lived,” Bailey said.
One of the victims went into cardiac arrest, but was revived, Bailey said. Both victims were said to have life-threatening injuries. By mid-morning, officials upgraded their conditions, saying the female was “now talking,” and the man was in stable condition, according to Bailey.
The animals were rescued from the fire, and firefighters tried to revive them but couldn’t.
